5 Mar 2012 - The British Embassy in Khartoum, through the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, sponsored AILA's trip to Sudan for the purpose of delivering training in negotiating and drafting investment treaties to Sudanese lawyers.  The sessions took place between the 6th and the 8th of March 2012.

Participants included legal advisers from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Petroleum, the judiciary, and lawyers from private practice and academia.

The Managing Director of AILA, Rukia Baruti was accompanied by AILA Faculty members, N. Jansen Calamita of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and Allen & Overy lawyers, Anthony Sinclair and Nima Elmi, who delivered the training sessions.

Participants were universally complimentary of the trainers and AILA's work.  The enthusiams with which the topics were discussed and received was overwhelmingly positive.

The Khartoum training sessions concluded with a reception hosted by the British Embassy.  The Deputy British Ambassador to Sudan, Tony Brennan gave a speech followed by speeches from the Vice Chancellor of the Higher Council for Investment, Ambassador Ahmed Shawer, and the Training Management Director of the Sudan Judiciary, Abdulmajid Idris Ali.  The common theme of the speeches was the need for North Sudan to conitnue promoting and attracting foreign investment into the country, by, among other things, building capacity and modernising foreign investment laws.

15 Feb 2012 - In March 2012, AILA will be sending some members of its Faculty to Khartoum to deliver training on negotiating and drafting investment treaties.  Working in collaboration with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at the British Embassy in Khartoum and with the Ministry of Justice in Sudan, AILA will train approximately 20 Sudanese government lawyers.
